The Whole Foods in Pasadena was a subterranean parking structure having 3 levels of precast: two parking levels and the first level of the Whole Foods Market. The structure was simultaneously installed with the structural steel of the building. Unlike most subterranean projects that take an inordinate amount of time to get out of the ground, precast allowed for all the structural elements to be completed simultaneously with one crane. Long spans and the reduction of supporting columns made for a user-friendly garage.
